David Fincher on videogames as art

"I acknowledge that video games could be an amazing art form – but not until the people making them go back a bit, to the Aaron Sorkin way of thinking about character and motivation."

A collection of TED Talks featuring IDEO

I couldn't find an easy way of just showing all of IDEO's TEDTalks on the otherwise great ted.com (their search isn't so great) so I collected them here. Hope I didn't forget any, if I did, please leave a comment.

Tim Brown urges designers to think big

About (from ted.com)
July 2009 — Tim Brown says the design profession is preoccupied with creating nifty, fashionable objects -- even as pressing questions like clean water access show it has a bigger role to play. He calls for a shift to local, collaborative, participatory "design thinking."

Tim Brown on creativity and play
About (from ted.com)
May 2008 — At the 2008 Serious Play conference, designer Tim Brown talks about the powerful relationship between creative thinking and play -- with many examples you can try at home (and one that maybe you shouldn't).

Paul Bennett finds design in the details
About (from ted.com)
July 2005 — Showing a series of inspiring, unusual and playful products, British branding and design guru Paul Bennett explains that design doesn't have to be about grand gestures, but can solve small, universal and overlooked problems.

David Kelley on human-centered design
About (from ted.com)
February 2002 — IDEO’s David Kelley says that product design has become much less about the hardware and more about the user experience. He shows video of this new, broader approach, including footage from the Prada store in New York.

Best of XBOX Live Arcade / Games on Demand

Games worth playing. This list is a work in progress. Originally I created this list as a "gaming curriculum" for my friend Hans Petter who just got an Xbox 360 and wanted recommendations. But I thought I'd make it public, because sharing is caring! (and it gave me a great excuse for testing Posterous)

Portal

Fantastic little game with brain-bending 3D puzzles!

Download demo/buy:

Developer: Valve

Burnout Paradise

Slowmotion crazy car crashes with online "co-op".. That's all you need to know.

Download demo/buy:

Devloper: Criterion Games

Bioshock

A must play game. Great use of interactive story-telling. Doesn't get much better.

Download demo/buy:

Developer: 2K Marine

Mass Effect

Epic sci-fi adventure with RPG elements. (avoid the planetary-excursion sidemissions, they are way to repetitive and monotone..)

Developer: Bioware

Shadow Complex

A very solid side-scrolling 2D game with a "touch of 3D". A modern version of Metroid built on the Unreal Engine.

Download demo/buy:

Developer: Chair / Epic

Braid

One, if not the best game ever made! Made by an independent developer (Jonathan Blow) who as far as I can tell, is one of the most intelligent people in the world.

Download demo/buy:
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802584...

Developer: Jonathan Blow

Assassins Creed

Beautiful game, but more of a tech demo, gets really repetitive very fast... Interesting concept story wise, and the sequel looks very promising.

Download demo/buy:

Developer: UbiSoft

Coming soon:

Pretty scary but a very well made game. Graphics, sound, controls.. all is top notch.
